Part time Position
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience choir director with two years in a Catholic Church or Institution
- Experience as a cantor/ song leader
- Competent keyboard skills, preferably both organ and piano
- Knowledge of current liturgical practice, documents, and guidelines
- Be able to pass a background check and attend Virtus Training
Job Duties:
Music Leadership:
- Oversight of complete parish music program-with pastor’s approval
- Personally serve as accompanist or choir director for two masses a weekend
- Serve as adult choir director
- Develop list of appropriate music for services/music selection list for the pastor and cantors/song leaders
- Develop a group of musicians and cantors to fill Sunday Liturgies
- Be responsible for assigning musicians/cantor for Sunday Liturgies, feast days, Holy Days, and other special services as needed such as vespers, penance services. To include services scheduled by Diocese staff such as Chrism Mass or Ordinations as needed.
- Provide training/vocal coaching for song leaders/cantors
- Over sight of care and maintenance for equipment i.e. piano tuning and microphone repair.
- Maintain parish music library
- Foster vocations in liturgical music
Liturgy Preparation:
- Prepare Liturgy music selection for choir or other services participating in, aid musician/song leaders in their music selection if necessary
- Conduct training in cooperation with clergy to aid in music/liturgy education of the parish music ministers
- Work with liturgical planning teams to provide assistance in the music selection for parish and diocesan liturgies in the parish
- Work with Bishop’s Master of Ceremonies for Special Liturgies
- Provide musical input and copyright information for preparation of worship aids
Pastoral Staff:
- Member of Divine Worship and Spiritual Development Commission of the Cathedral Parish
- Member of Diocesan Liturgy Planning Committee with approval by Committee Chair
- Prepare report of music ministry for parish council meetings and bulletin
- Work with parish finance officer and council for budgets and purchases
- Be familiar with and follow all music copyright laws
