The St. Joseph Cathedral Foundation Our patron saint, Joseph, the carpenter, was blessed with the ability to build works of lasting value for generations after him. Like Joseph, we can leave a legacy – perhaps not built with our hands, but built with the blessings God has bestowed upon us. The St. Joseph Cathedral Foundation has been created as a means to help build a lasting source of support for our parish and school. The Foundation accepts gifts of cash and other assets, which are preserved and invested or long-term benefits. All the money donated stays in the parish, growing in the Foundation fund, while the earnings are used to meet special needs. In addition to providing a legacy of stewardship, gifts to the Foundation also may provide substantial tax benefits for the contributor. If you would like more information, please contact the pastor at 573.635.7991 or Alan Mudd at 573.632.8507. Frequently Asked Questions What is the St. Joseph Cathedral Foundation? The Foundation is a special, not-for-profit corporation established for the Cathedral Parish to accept contributions of cash and other assets from those who wish to make gifts that provided a long-term legacy for the parish. How will funds in the Foundation be used? Generally, the contributions made – the principal – will be preserved, and only the earned income from the invested fund will be used. The Foundation Board of Directors will seek input from parish groups then, in consultation with the pastor, the Board will decide when and how the income will be used. Can I designate how income from my contributions will be used? Yes, you may designate how the income from your gift will be used. However, donors are encouraged to give unrestricted gifts to provide flexibility to meet future parish needs. Other than outright cash donations, how can I contribute? You can donate securities, real estate and life insurance. You can make a bequest to the Foundation in your will. You can set up a charitable trust and establish a memorial gift when a loved one dies. Can the principal in the Foundation ever be spent? Only in the case of urgent need, with a two-thirds vote of the Foundation Board of Directors. Will a gift to the Foundation replace my weekly tithing to the Church? No. The Foundation serves as a way to donate accumulated wealth to meet long-term parish needs. Your regular tithing is important to meet current parish expenses. Why is the Foundation necessary? The Foundation establishes a steady, secure source of income to supplement future needs of the parish. It provides a way for parishioners to donate to the parish, knowing their gifts will provide a lasting legacy. If I want to make a gift to the Foundation, what’s the next step? Please contact the pastor at 573.635.7991 or Alan Mudd at 573.632.8507. Ways to Leave a Legacy
